At 3 am, Chicago time, on February 23rd, the General Consulate in Chicago of the Republic of Lithuania, in partnership with the Lithuanian American Community Midwest district and the Maironis Lithuanian Heritage School of Lemont, IL, organized the participation in Lithuania‘s National Dictation Contest, at the Lithuanian World Center, Lemont, IL.

After a 2 year hiatus, the reinstatement of the contest attracted 9 contestants from the Chicago area – self-proclaimed devotees of the Lithuanian language. They gathered in one of the school‘s classrooms, ready to take on the challenge. Marijus Gudynas, the Consul
General, was there to give rousing encouragement to the group, extolling them for braving the challenge at such an late hour of the night.

As in previous years, Goodwill Financial, a company formed by Lithuanians, sponsored the prizes for the Chicago contestants. A special brand name pen slated for the contestant who turned in the best dictation, and consolation prizes for all the participants.

The General Consulate thanks all participants in this event and those who helped organize it.
