The Lithuanian American Educational Council nurtures the Lithuanian heritage by supporting Lithuanian Heritage Schools, teachers, and students in the U.S.


The Lithuanian Educational Council:

  • assists Lithuanian Heritage Schools with support from the Lithuanian Foundation
  • organizes workshops and seminars for teachers of Lithuanian language and culture
  • assists Lithuanian Heritage Schools with textbooks, curricula, and other educational materials
  • honors publicly outstanding teachers of Lithuanian language and culture in the US.

Scholarships for students enrolled or accepted to an accredited college, university, or community college who are of Lithuanian descent and are residents of Illinois. Send application request to the provided address with a stamped, self-addressed envelope.

For seniors of Lithuanian descent with 2.0 GPA and intent to major in a health care career.

Wayne State University – Joseph Tamosiunas Scholarship

This scholarship varies in amount (dependent upon funds available) and is limited to full- or part-time students of Lithuanian descent. Recipients are selected on the bases of scholastic achievements, desirable qualities of character and leadership, and financial need. Members of the Lithuanian Ethnic Room Committee representing the estate of Mr. Tamosiunas may solicit applications for the award.

Tufts University – Dr. Anthony J. West and Frances West Scholarship Fund

Established in 1992 by the estate of Frances West, widow of Dr. Anthony J. West, M’28, this scholarship is to be awarded to deserving medical students who are of Lithuanian descent.

For one Norwood High School Senior and one Worcester high school senior to pursue studies leading to a career in the health profession. Preference to students of Lithuanian descent.
